Capitalising on telecom opportunities in Mexico
Overview
The regulator in Mexico has ruled that America Movil holds a dominant position in the Mexican telecoms market and, as reported by Total Telecom, has sort to implement stringent new regulations against them. This includes asymmetric interconnection rates, rules governing infrastructure sharing and the hosting of MVNOs on its network, the elimination of national roaming charges for customers, and a ban on the acquisition of exclusive content rights.
This is not the only sector of the Mexican economy to be hit by heavy handed regulation, so is the worlds’ 14th largest economy still an appealing place to do business and what does this mean for companies wanting to invest in the region?
